Although it was written long before the internet, many of the concepts explained by the author are applicable to web and desktop application design. If you create visual things for a living or for a hobby, you owe it to yourself to at least leaf through the book a couple times. Btockmann 10, Aaron rated it liked it. Beautifully printed in hardcover with black and red ink on soft fabric-like paper. Really useful examples, which have generated a lot of ideas.
But one must learn how to use the grid; it is an art that requires practice. What matters more, I’d say is spacing, fonts and font sizes.
Unlike a lot of text books, it does an excruciatingly excellent job of explaining its lessons and reasoning. Better read Gombrich ‘s History of Art as a complememt.
I’ll read it again when Recommended by a designer friend this week. I’m only giving it a 4 due to the paper quality. I love modernism and what brokmann out of it.

Things will inherently make more sense and the designer’s workflow becomes simplified for the better while improving their work greatly. How many words per legible line? Bad news is that grids are only the part and small-one of the equation.
